It has recently come to light that fraud that was being carried out by the German automobile giant Volkswagen. This fraud was uncovered by chance when some students from an American university who were doing a study discovered that the levels of pollution emitted by vehicles were much higher than what they supposedly emit according to the manufacturer's information.
The fraud consisted of software installed in the vehicle that recognized when the vehicle was being subjected to an official test and then used an additional tank that had been installed in the car to be able to expel less polluting emissions than the car normally emits and be within the levels to be able to pass the official test.
The maximum representative of The German automobile company has publicly acknowledged that they have committed fraud and that this could affect 11 million vehicles. The affected models would be the diesel models of the Jetta, Beetle, Audi A3 and Golf sold between 2008 and 2015, in addition to the 2014 and 2015 Passats.
Affected customers have the right to demand the termination of the contract signed with the company, they could also demand the repair of the vehicle at no cost, the refund of the money or its replacement with another that respects environmental regulations.
